I Dig It! Limited has been digging, clearing, levelling and building around Hawke's Bay for 26 years, run by Peter Smith out of his workshop in Clive. In an industry where a lot of the bigger excavation companies now have layers of office staff, project managers and dispatch between you and the machine, we've stayed exactly what we started as: a local digging business where the owner picks up the phone.

That's not us being small for the sake of it, it's what sets us apart. When you call, you're talking to the person who quotes it, plans it, and turns up with the digger with his crew. No miscommunications. No waiting on someone else's schedule.

We handle the full range of outdoor earthworks across Hawke's Bay, including pools, driveways, section clears, floor preps, augering, hardfill and topsoil supply, levelling and seeding, concrete prep and pour and more. Where a job needs a trade outside our own gear, we bring in people we've worked with for years, so the whole project still runs through one point of contact, Pete.

One of the jobs we're proudest of started with nothing more than a homeowner's hand-drawn sketch on a scrap of paper and a message saying, "can you build this in my backyard?" We could, and we did, working through January until a COVID lockdown pushed us back with just days left to go. We got there in the end. That's the kind of project we enjoy: a rough idea, a bit of trust, and a finished result the owner is proud of.
